Yearly Mechanical Maintenance

Have you been thinking about how long it’s been since you have had your heating or cooling units cleaned and serviced? Most people don’t realize the importance or benefits of having yearly maintenance done on their HVAC equipment. Let’s face it — life is busy and hectic as it is, and most people aren’t thinking about their HVAC system when everything is working or seems to be working as it should. In this article I’m going to give you some really important ideas to think about as to why you should have yearly maintenance done on your system.

First, by maintaining and cleaning your air conditioning coils, it allows the equipment to properly breathe and work the way it’s designed to. As years go by, your outside air conditioning unit begins to collect cotton, grass, and other outdoor debris causing the coil to become plugged and therefore not allowing it to draw the proper air across the coil to cool your home efficiently. The same effect can happen to your indoor evaporator coil, located on your air handler by the pollutants inside your home. When the evaporator coil is plugged with debris, it doesn’t allow air to move across the coil and bring cool or warm air into your home. By having regular maintenance done both of these services will be done at least once and hopefully twice a year.

Next is the fact that many times, a technician can find problems while they are minor and repair them before they become major. By repairing minor problems early, it can save you hundreds if not thousands down the road. By having minor problems repaired early, you may also be able to repair those problems while you have a scheduled visit for maintenance, as we all know, everything breaks at the most inconvenient time, either on the weekend or a holiday and it takes a lot longer to get service due to limited staff.

Last, by having regular maintenance done on your home’s HVAC system, it can prolong the life of your system. Studies have shown that maintaining your system improves efficiency and longevity of the life and quality of your system. I always use the cliche that you maintain your car because it’s mechanical, therefore you should most definitely maintain your mechanical system in your home. Most manufacturers won’t honor their warranties if you cannot show that you have had their equipment maintained. Most units have at least a five if not ten-year warranty, which also can save you thousands of dollars if you have a breakdown. This spring season or the upcoming winter, don’t cross your fingers anymore hoping to make it through one more year with your old un-serviced HVAC equipment. Go ahead and find a great service company that you trust and have your system cleaned, tuned up, and ready to go, so that you can have the peace of mind and comfort to know that you can check it off of your already busy and hectic schedule.
